10 Fun Fall Activities to do with your Little’s

10 Fun Fall Activities to do with your Little’s. HAPPY FALL Y’ALL! I love, love, love fall. It is my favorite season. It always has been, the crisp cool air, the beautifully colored trees. The impending possibility of a bucket full of candy 😍. What’s not to love?!

If you are a new mama and don’t know what to do. Or if you are looking for some fun things to do with your little’s this fall, this is the list for you.  If you have read my blog at length you will know that my undying love of fall was talked about last year in my Apple Baby Food Recipe.

Fall is such an exciting time of year, kids are starting school. Meeting new friends and having new experiences. Weekends become a crucial part of the family time because they are the time you slow down from the daily hustle. All of these experiences are catered to being a weekend activity that can be done in a day or less.

I live in Pennsylvania so these activities might not be able to be done everywhere.

1. Hayride

hayride

We do this every year. Our hayride happens to go to a pumpkin patch where we get to pick a pumpkin. We have been doing this since my first was over a year old. Fun is had by all and it only takes up an afternoon. So if you want to, or are able to, sleep in you can. Check around with your local farms to see what they have on offer. Chances are they will have one.

2. Pumpkin Carving

If you get your pumpkin like us on a hayride you are going to need to carve it. You can get a carving kit that comes with all the things you need. Some kids love the sensory experience of gutting the pumpkins of their slimy insides. If you want to spend the extra time, you can also roast the pumpkin seeds for a healthy treat.

If you want to ditch the mess. Or, if your child wants to decorate their pumpkin themselves they can use any art medium. We have used markers, paint, glue and glitter, pipe cleaners, and fabric in the past. All things that they can use by themselves without the threat of a carving accident.

3. Corn Maze

The same place we go to pick our pumpkins and go on a hayride also offers a corn maze. We have not done this activity yet because it is not something that toddlers particularly enjoy. If your children are school-aged they might enjoy this better.

When I was school-aged we had a haunted corn maze, which was very fun. I loved going with my friends and getting scared. We always finished it, I have been to other’s that I have not completed though. It’s the journey that’s the fun, and not the ending so if you don’t complete it’s still a fun experience to have as a family.

4. Apple Picking

apple picking

This is always a fun experience. I love to pick berries as a family as well. The weather is so much better though in the fall. You aren’t out in the humid and hot sun picking berries. A lot of times they will have apple products for sale at the place you can pick them. Like hot apple cider or apple butter. When I was little we went apple picking and then made apple butter at the same place.

5. Making Applesauce

If you do go apple picking you are going to have to find something to do with all your apples. I have made homemade applesauce many times. It’s a great way to know what your child is getting. You never know what preservatives or the amount of sugar is being added to store-bought products. This way you know that your child is just getting applesauce and not something that you can’t pronounce.

You can use my apple baby food recipe to make applesauce just don’t blend them until pureed. Pulse a couple of times and you are done. Add a little bit of cinnamon if desired and you can have homemade, healthy applesauce as a delicious fall treat.

6. Fall Festivals

We have a street fair and a local fair in the fall. So fall weather always makes me think of fair weather. Carmel apples, apple cider, and apple dumplings are always on offer when we have a festival during the fall. They are delicious! They also have lots of fun activities for kids. No shame in just eating though πŸ˜‹.

7. Leaf-Peeping

When my mother was little she talked about how her family would go on family drives on Sunday’s. Her favorite time was in the fall, she would love to look at all the leaves. I too enjoy looking at the leaves, especially in the Pennsylvania rolling hills the sea of different colors is breathtaking.

You can also go on a nature walk to admire the leaves. Ask your little’s to find the most pretty leaf to take home and dry.

8. Putting up Fall Decorations

Starting to get those fall decorations out? Why not have everyone help? You can spend a Saturday together arranging your fall decor. Put those spooky touches on your house. Just let go of the expectation of what you want things to look like. If you let everyone put their personal touch on things, you won’t have as much stress.

9. Rake Leaves

Rake leaves together and make piles so your little’s can jump in them. They will enjoy the thrill of getting dirty and messing up the piles. In the end hopefully, some of the leaves are still in piles.

10. Making a Pie

Thanksgiving is around the corner, so start making those recipes you want to try. Mixing and rolling out the dough is perfect for little hands to help with. This is also a great way to use up your picked apples. Just don’t get too caught up in the mess of your kitchen.

LEAVES

These are my top 10 favorite fun fall activities to do. There are so many more you can do. The most important thing is that you are doing a fun activity together as a family. Making memories and growing your bond.
