How to Cut Felt with your Cricut
Are you interested in using felt for a project? Do you want it done perfectly? Then you need to know how to cut felt with your Cricut® Cutting Machine.
For Halloween this year I am making homemade costumes. Something I have done before. However, I did not have a Cricut® before, so this year all my felt projects are a breeze compared to last year. If you were looking forward to my tutorials but don’t have a Cricut®. Never fear I have printables for you to cut with.
Materials you will need:
- Felt Sheets
TOOLS YOU WILL NEED:
- Cricut® Cutting Machine (air or explore)
- Deep Cut Blade and Housing
- Strong Grip Mat
- True Control Kit™ Knife
Let’s get down to business.
- Make sure that you have your deep cut blade and housing in your machine.
- Then, In order to cut felt with your Cricut®, you will need to put your machine on “custom” on your dial. Then under more materials select “Felt Wool Bonded“
- Put your felt on the strong grip mat, make sure to smooth it down. It sometimes likes to bunch up under the cutting blade if it is not smoothed out first.
- Then insert your mat into your Cricut®. Make sure you watch, just in case it wasn’t smooth enough and starts to bunch up. I just smooth down the pieces that come up.
- You’re all done! Pull up the felt. If there are some pieces that did not cut all the way through, use your True Control Knife™ to cut it.
This is how I make most costumes and how I cut all of my felt now. It makes beautiful straight lines. Unlike when I have cut felt by hand in the past, where everything looks choppy.
