St. Patricks Day Fine Motor Activities

These are some St. Patricks day themed fine motor activities that you can do at home with your little one. Even if they are not delayed it can help boost a toddlers budding fine motor skills. Or it can just be a fun activity for older kids.

If you have read my previous posts you will know my daughter is on the autism spectrum and has developmental delays. One of those being a fine motor delay. They work with her in occupational therapy on those things, but it never hurts to do some work at home.

Decorated Shamrock

A decorated shamrock that your little one cuts out and colors help with their scissor skills and it will help with their grip on crayons or markers. Find some shamrock or green stickers to use as well. If your child is not advanced enough to take the stickers off themselves pull up an edge to help them pick up the sticker. All of these are helpful with fine motor skills.

What you will need:

Directions:

To get a shamrock shape, fold your construction paper in half and make a half-heart shape, connected to a full heart and then a square at the bottom to make the stem. Your child can cut out the half and unfold the paper showing the full shamrock shape.

After cutting out the shamrock shape decorate it with markers, crayons, and stickers. You can have your child write their name if they are able as this is another fine motor skill. Then put your art on the fridge! If there is room.

Green Necklace

Stringing items helps with the pincer grasp of little ones and fine motor muscle tone. Find beads with bigger holes in them depending on their skill level.

What you need:

Directions:

Cut string to your child’s liking. Mine would like it longer because she doesn’t like the sensory experience of a shorter necklace. Have your child string their beads onto a cut piece of string. Tape the end of the string to help them go on easier. Tie the end or if your child is able they can tie it. Then wear your green necklace!

Green Sensory Bottle

Green Sensory Bottle

This is not only a great activity for kiddos who need to work on their fine motor skills but it will also be a delight for those sensory seekers. My daughter loves sensory bottles, they help her calm down and she just loves to watch them. Really, who doesn’t?!

What you need:

Directions:

Using your empty water bottle have your child put in the pom poms, sprinkle in the glitter and shamrock confetti. After your child is has done this, put in a tsp of the clear glue. This will make the glitter float more when its shaken.

Add water to almost the top of the bottle, as you want some room to be able to shake it. Then hot glue the top onto it so your child can shake it vigorously without spilling it. Then put in there calm down spot, or just play with it as desired.

Fill your day with these nice fine motor activities. Your child won’t even realize that they are helping them develop as they seem to just be fun crafts that they can play with. What a great way to celebrate St. Patricks day! This year St. Patricks day is on a Sunday, so you can do all these activities on the weekend!

I hope you enjoy them as much as my littles. If you make any please don’t forget to tag @mamaofthedrama and let me know how they went! Or leave me a comment below.
